Deriving a typology of resumption

چکیده
is paper proposes a novel approach to deriving the distribution of resumptive pronouns across various languages. e focus will be on structures in which an argument is extracted from (embedded) subject and (embedded) object positions by means of relativization. A movement based mechanism will be presented which derives exactly when the extraction leaves behind a gap, and when the result is a resumptive pronoun. Using this mechanism, a crosslinguistic typology of resumptive patterns is established.
